Emphasis on Education: Foreign Students

This focus section presents data on enrollment of foreign students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus from 1967 to 1999. Enrollment data is from the Division of Management Information, Copyright 2006, Board of Trustees, University of Illinois. Reproduced with Permission. General statistics, as well as individual country graphs are presented. Please note that countries with extremely few enrolled students over this time period (such as a single student) may result in strange-looking or blank graphs due to the configuration of the graphing software used for this section. Please also note that there are some possible inaccuracies in this data, but for countries with large numbers of students, trends should accurate.

Aggregate Statistics

The following tables rank the list of countries on total number of students, total female graduate students, total male graduate students, total female undergraduate students, and total male undergraduate students.

The following tables offering the same ranking criteria, but ordered by year rather than country.

The following graphs show trends by year.

Country Profile Graphs

These graphs show trends in each individual country. Graphs for total students, total undergraduate students (by gender), total graduate students (by gender), and undergraduate versus graduate students are available. For many countries, the number of graduate students signficantly outnumbers the number of undergraduates, while for others, such as the United Kingdom, a steady decline in graduate students has been matched by an equal increase in undergraduates.
